The Institute
By tradition and principle, the Martins Bastos family has always been very connected to philanthropy. That is why in 2011 we created the Maragata Institute (IM), a non-profit institution whose objective is to carry out social actions and promote high-performance sports.
With 49 years of dedication and continuous investment in genetics, structure, processes and people, Maragata has established itself as one of the main horse polo structures in Brazil and one of the most competitive teams in the national high handicap calendar.
Through the support of our partners and sponsors, we create events and projects to raise funds and, aiming to ensure the correct use of resources and greater credibility for donors, IM does not make cash donations, the resources are managed by us and allocated directly to the purchase of materials, renovations, etc.

A few years ago, an initiative emerged that would become a symbol of solidarity and support in the community: the Maragata Institute. Created by the Martins Bastos family, the Institute began modestly, but with a clear purpose: to help where help was most needed and always focusing on children.
The first steps were taken by supporting Santa Casa de Uruguaiana, a hospital facing financial difficulties. This initial gesture of generosity quickly turned into something bigger, as the family and the local community realized other needs.
Over time, the Maragata Institute expanded its activities, embracing other humanitarian causes.
One of the most significant milestones in the Institute’s journey was the emergence of the N.tentativas project.
This project was born in 2016 with the birth of Valencia, João Gaspar and Nathalia's first daughter, after a 7-year struggle with infertility and 9 fertility treatments. We help low-income couples by paying 100% of the cost of treatments. More than 40 couples have already participated in the project and we are looking forward to more!
Over the years, the Maragata Institute has continued to forge its path, guided by its core values of solidarity, compassion, and integrity. Its impact on the Uruguaiana community has only grown, inspiring others to join the cause and becoming a shining example of the transformative power of human kindness.
Today, the Maragata Institute is a widely recognized and respected institution, but its essence remains the same: a beacon of hope and support for those who need it most, living proof that, together, we can make a difference and build a better world for everyone.
